The Strange Guide to the universe begins here...

I want to go somewhere. Nowhere specific, but if you give me five minutes I can probably leave you with a list of about 20 places. This is nothing new to me – I am an admitted and certified travel-holic. It has been approximately two months since my last trip (which was to Boston – amazing!), and I simply cannot draw myself away from Expedia, Travelocity, Student Universe, Trip Advisor, STA Travel, Hotwire… Well, you get the picture.

If you’re worried that this blog exists solely as a place for me to vent my frustrations about not being able to travel all the time, never fear. Aside from being boring, that is just not useful. I fear everyone would end up salivating about going places or getting frustrated that they have to stay in school/work/look after kids etc. No Bueno.

So what am I going to talk about, you ask? Is this not a travel blog? Well, yes it is! But as evidenced by the title, this is not any old travel blog. Oh no, this is the Strange Guides travel blog. This is a spin on my last name BUT also my attempt to convey a strange spin on destinations, traveling, tourism, study abroad and everything else in that realm. My interests are limited. See above re: travel-holic.

Next question. Who am I to tell YOU about travel, destinations, tourism etc? Glad you asked! I am a Masters student at the University of Florida studying tourism, with a special interest in study abroad (read: forcing people to travel). I have worked with three study abroad companies and took two gap years before starting college at UF, spending most of my time and money on travel. I lived in England until I was 19. I have been to five continents, 16 countries and 25 states. I will definitely be coming back to haunt someone should my untimely death prevent me from seeing all seven continents and 50 states. Watch. Out.

I plan on dispersing my (obviously) phenomenal advice on destinations, talking a bit about tourism theory and how it applies to real life, discussing travel companies, sharing any great deals for exploring and generally writing about my favorite subject: shoes.

Just kidding.

Were you paying attention?

Honestly though, shoes are a close second…just ask my dad.
